ARTS & SCIENCES

In the Society, Arts and Sciences, ( A&S ) generally refers to any medieval art, craft or skill which creates. These skills may include but are not limited to the following :-

CALLIGRAPHY,  ILLUMINATION, LEATHERWORK (Both armour and accessory),

METALWORK  (As for leatherwork), JEWELLERY, COSTUMING, NEEDLEWORK, COOKING, DANCE, ENTERTAINMENT, RESEARCH (the list is only limited by your interest).

The duty of the Arts and Sciences Minister is to encourage , guide and assist those who wish to practice any or many artistic disciplines. They can give you access to resources, including books, and workshops (why re-invent the wheel, unless of course you  have a better design). It also falls to this office to organise and support A&S competitions. Tassels, Bells, and prizes have all been given to the winners (and outstanding efforts) seen at these competitions. Any one can enter a competition just talk to the A&S Minister or the Autocrat running the event, they can give you further details on these.

In support of specific areas of the beautifying skills of the Society there are GUILDS.

Guilds are often LOCHAC (Australia) wide or local and are run by individuals who have a great interest in that particular area of the Society. The Guilds are there to teach and to encourage activities, practice and research in their particular discipline. They are open to any who wish to have a look at what is involved or a desire to learn more about an art or science. Guilds have neither a monopoly or control over the disciplines and can be as seasonal as the weather.
