The most important part of the SCA is it's people, friends old and new alike getting together to share a common interest. This page is us. We'd love to see you at our next event.

Kilic ibn Sungur ibn al-Kazganci al-Turhani

Kilic ibn Sungur ibn al-Kazganci al-Turhani is a Turkic nomad from the Early 13th Century. Kilic was bought from his parents at market in Samarkand and raised as a Ghulam or slave soldier. He served his master well and when his master passed away took service with a number of different rulers, warrior lords and merchants particularly in the unsettled regions of Rum. Like any good nomad he has become a jack of all trades and has tried his hand at various crafts including woodwork, leatherwork, metalwork, armouring, tent making, cooking and hats – definitely likes hats.

Branwen of Werchesvorde

Branwen of Werchesvorde is a Scribe of a non specific period between 900 to 1600AD. I like to be various ‘ancestors’ in different periods and in different countries and cultures.

Originally the family started in North East England around the time of the Anglo-Saxons. My father was a Merchant who fell in love with a Welsh lass and brought her home to Warksworth.(later re named Werchesvorde)

They had a daughter, Branwen, meaning white bird in Welsh. Mother (Siwan) died, leaving my Father (Bran), to raise me. I showed and early talent for drawing and seeing an opportunity, my Father had me educated at the local monastery (Lindisfarne) to learn numbers, read and write in order to help him with his business. Unknown to him I discovered a passion for Illumination. As the coast was constantly under threat from the Vikings he decided to take me with him. I kept records of the business and over the years we became very prosperous. We travelled to the Far East where I discovered a young man, a Turk, who was a great archer and fighter. Kilic became a caravan guardsman on many of my father’s ventures.

As well as calligraphy and Illumination (Master Scribe in the College of Scribes) my other interests are cooking (Master in the Cook’s guild), embroidery, sewing, tent making, leatherwork, weaving, and a real lot of other stuff I don’t have time for.

Catherine de Arc

Baroness Catherine is an English noble woman from the late 14th century. She is strongly influenced by the fashions, food and culture of both England and France. Due to the war with France and now turmoil with Scotland Catherine has often been left to maintain the estates and home while her lord takes part in the wars. She has learned to rule the house and lands with determined efficiency, very few are unwise enough to cross her.

Catherine's strength is tempered by a love of the arts with her taking part and regularly teaching a variety of dance, music and textile crafts.

Nathan Blacktower

Master Nathan is a late 14th century English lord, an archer and a fighter. He spent a significant amount of time fighting for his King in the wars against the French and now closer to home against the Scots. It has been said that his lack of fear of the enemy may just be the greater fear of his Lady at home, but that would be a different story. When there is a break in the unrest of war and Nathan returns home, he is a regular at tournament and at feast. He also enjoys blacksmithing and other metalwork.
